Searching for a list of journals in Egypt? The Arab world’s biggest cluster of internationally indexed journals is in Egypt, together with hundreds of university titles. Here you will find major Egyptian journals with publisher, subject and reported indexing, an explanation of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and steps for verifying a journal. It is intended for researchers in Cairo, Egypt; Giza, Egypt; Alexandria, Egypt; Mansoura, Egypt and throughout the country.
The Academic Publishing Landscape in Egypt
The Supreme Council of Universities coordinates Egypt’s public universities, and its scientific committees assess academic staff for promotion. Research also receives backing from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. Nearly every Egyptian university and faculty issues at least one journal, and a large number are hosted on the EKB journals platform. Knowing which committee evaluates your field helps you pick journals that count toward your promotion file.
Egypt additionally has many internationally indexed titles. According to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, 60 Egyptian titles were included in Clarivate’s 2025 Journal Citation Reports, split as 27 in Q4, 12 in Q3, 11 in Q2, 8 in Q1 and 2 with no quartile, over 39 disciplines. Well-known examples, including the Journal of Advanced Research and the Alexandria Engineering Journal, come from Egyptian universities working with international publishers.
Launched in 2016, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank provides Egyptian researchers with free access to international journals and databases, and backs an EKB journal family run with Springer Nature.

Egypt’s Main Research Hubs
Most Egyptian research is centred in Greater Cairo and Alexandria, though large universities also operate across the Delta and Upper Egypt.
Picking the Right Journal
Settle on a journal before the writing is done. Three recent articles will tell you whether the scope fits; the author guidelines will show the length and referencing style; and your institution can tell you what it accepts — a national list, Scopus, Web of Science, or simply peer review. Keep a trustworthy second option ready should the first one decline the paper. Writing to a specific journal's format from the start saves rework later.
Fees and Affordable Options
Fees differ greatly. Numerous Egyptian university journals on the EKB platform ask a modest fee in Egyptian pounds, at times higher for foreign authors, whereas journals run with international partners typically charge APCs in US dollars. Read the journal’s official fee statement to see what is covered. Ask for a written breakdown if the fee page is unclear.
Never pay before a genuine acceptance, and use official channels alone. As a benchmark, JMVRA's foreign-author fee is $41 USD, due only after acceptance and covering up to five authors.

Arabic, English or French: Which Language to Publish In
Egyptian journals often publish in Arabic, English or both. The language you choose shapes who can read and cite your work and which databases include it. Scopus and Web of Science cover journals in many languages but need at least English titles, abstracts and keywords, and the majority of indexed regional journals are mainly in English.
- Is your work meant for local policy or practice? A reputable journal in the national language could suit your readers best.
- Is international indexing a goal? Find out the journal’s language policy and whether English abstracts are supplied.
- Want to publish a translation of your own article? Without express approval from each journal, putting one study out twice in different languages is duplicate publication.
Checking a Journal Step by Step
- Make sure the ISSN Portal lists the same ISSN and title.
- Identify the publisher, editors and contact address on your own.
- Study the peer review policy, since decisions are expected to arrive with reviewer comments.
- Confirm any claim of indexing by looking in the database directly.
- Fees should be disclosed beforehand and requested only following acceptance.

Practical Tips for Egyptian Researchers Publishing Internationally
Egypt has a large and active university system, which means competition for attention is real. These pointers help your paper stand out through clarity, ethical care and sensible venue choices.
- Make your novelty explicit. State in the introduction exactly what your study adds beyond earlier work from Egypt and elsewhere. Editors reject many papers because the contribution is implied rather than clearly stated.
- Report sample sizes with justification. Explain why your sample was adequate for the question asked. Reviewers frequently challenge small or convenience samples, and a short justification pre-empts that objection.
- Be careful with thesis material. When a paper derives from a master's or doctoral thesis, cite the thesis and rewrite rather than copying passages. Overlap checks can flag untouched text even from your own work.
- Agree authorship before writing. Discuss the order and roles of authors, including supervisors, at the start. Disputes over authorship are far easier to settle early than after a decision arrives.
- Prepare Arabic and English titles consistently. If you use both languages, keep the translated title and keywords aligned. Inconsistent versions make it harder for others to find and cite your paper correctly.
State your novelty plainly, justify your sample, handle thesis overlap honestly and settle authorship before you begin writing.
