High Impact Factor Journals in Egypt: How to Find and Choose Them — JMVRA guide banner

Interested in high impact factor journals in Egypt? Impact factors, quartiles and rankings influence many promotions and grants, and they are easy to misinterpret or counterfeit. This guide covers the meaning of the main metrics, ways to avoid fake impact factors, the journals published in Egypt that report international indexing, and a stepwise method for finding the highest-impact journals in your field. It is aimed at researchers in Cairo, Egypt; Giza, Egypt; Alexandria, Egypt; Mansoura, Egypt.

Journal metrics explained for researchers in Egypt: Journal Impact Factor, CiteScore, SJR, quartiles, h5-index and fake metrics.

What a High Impact Factor Actually Tells You

A journal’s citations over a defined period are summed up by impact metrics. Two years of Web of Science data feed the Journal Impact Factor; CiteScore relies on four years of Scopus data; SJR adjusts every citation for the prestige of the journal citing it. As fields cite differently, restrict comparisons to journals of the same subject category. Reading the metric’s definition first avoids misinterpreting a number.

Invented Impact Factors and Misleading Metrics

“Impact factors” are sold or awarded by many sites, and they have nothing to do with Clarivate’s Journal Impact Factor. A journal that advertises a large value from an unknown source, or claims a JIF without an entry in the Master Journal List, is misleading you. Ask which database, which year, and whether the database’s own website shows it.

Being upfront, JMVRA says: 11.25 is the impact factor on display, derived from Google Scholar data. It is not Clarivate’s Journal Impact Factor, and indexing in Scopus, Web of Science or DOAJ is something JMVRA does not have.

Indexed Journals Based in Egypt

Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education counts 60 Egyptian titles in the 2025 Journal Citation Reports from Clarivate. The distribution is 8 in Q1, 11 in Q2, 12 in Q3, 27 in Q4, while 2 carry no quartile.

These coverage details come from the journals or publishers themselves, as stated on 4 October 2026. Confirm the present Journal Impact Factor and quartile through Journal Citation Reports, and CiteScore or SJR through Scopus Sources or SCImago. Metrics change, so quote them together with the date you checked.

Online Journals and Portals in Egypt

E-journals are now the usual format for journals in Egypt. The services below let you locate them, compare options and verify their reputation:

  • Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) — The national digital library of Egypt, opened in 2016 and free to Egyptian citizens; it also backs Egyptian journals, among them an EKB journal family run with Springer Nature.
  • EKB journals platform — A web-based journal management system that hosts numerous Egyptian university and research-centre journals and handles submission and review.
  • Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) — Oversees the public universities of Egypt, including the scientific committees that assess staff for promotion.
  • Directory of Open Access Journals — Look up open access journals that satisfy DOAJ’s criteria, narrowing by the publisher’s country (Egypt) or by “without fees”.
  • SCImago country rankings — Journal rankings drawn from Scopus, limited to titles published in Egypt and showing quartiles and SJR.
  • ISSN Portal — Compare a journal’s claimed ISSN, exact title and publishing country with the official record first.

Directory or platform listings alone do not establish high impact or international indexing. Check every journal in the citation databases yourself.

Locating Top-Tier Journals in Your Field

  1. Find your subject category according to the way JCR and SCImago group journals.
  2. Open that category in JCR or SCImago and arrange its journals by whichever metric your requirement names.
  3. Assess fit by reading three current articles in each of the shortlisted journals.
  4. Check the current year's metric and quartile at the original source.
  5. Before submitting, check the fees, open access options and any waivers.

Open Access, Costs and Impact

Several high-impact journals sell open access through an article processing charge, others are diamond open access, and many subscription titles do not charge authors. Open access helps reach more readers, especially where library budgets cannot cover subscriptions, but whether it lifts citations varies by field; a large APC is not worth paying for impact alone.

  • Examine the fee ahead of shortlisting, as you would the metric and the fit.
  • Check for waivers: numerous publishers support authors from lower- and middle-income countries this way.
  • Consider self-archiving: where policy permits, an accepted manuscript can be shared in a repository at zero cost.
  • Check with your library to learn whether a publisher deal pays for, or reduces, the APC for authors in Egypt.

A Practical Path to High-Impact Publication

What makes an impact is how good and far-reaching the research is, rather than the journal alone. Develop a portfolio of peer-reviewed papers suited to their venues, team up with others when they contribute expertise, and reserve your most robust, broadly applicable work for the most influential journals in your discipline. A clear research agenda helps every paper reinforce the others.

  • Boost the quality of the study: define the question clearly, design it soundly, recruit an adequate sample and report everything.
  • Present it globally: show what readers beyond Egypt can take away from your work.
  • Seek collaborators when they can supply additional expertise or data.
  • Give reviewers complete responses — high-impact papers mostly go through a revision stage.

How JMVRA suits authors in Egypt

Based in India, JMVRA (ISSN 2984-8911) is an international open access journal covering many disciplines. It is not a Egyptian journal, but it accepts papers from authors in Egypt. JMVRA does not have a Clarivate impact factor; it is a good fit for papers that need an affordable, peer-reviewed open access home rather than a Scopus or WoS-indexed one.

  • Fee: $41 USD from foreign authors, requested after acceptance and not before, covers up to 5 authors.
  • Review: subject experts review double-blind and transparently, and the similarity figure must be lower than 15%.
  • Access: CC BY 4.0 licence, open access; a Crossref DOI is obtainable on request.
  • Indexing facts, up front: Google Scholar lists the journal; Scopus, Web of Science and DOAJ do not.

The Role of Metrics in Egypt

Hiring, promotion and funding decisions in Egypt may draw on journal metrics, on national systems such as the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) journals platform and the Supreme Council of Universities, or on an institution's own lists. Check the present rules before you pick a journal to meet a metric-based requirement. Ask a senior colleague who has been through the process which sources the committee accepted.
  1. Know the metric — JIF, CiteScore, SJR, or a number based on Google Scholar
  2. Find where it is published — and confirm the journal in person at that source
  3. Make comparisons field by field — never across them
  4. Make a dated note of your checks — useful for evaluators

Practical Tips for Egyptian Researchers Choosing Journals

Egypt has a large and active research community, so competition for attention is real. These practical points help you pick venues thoughtfully and present your work to a wide readership.

  • Learn your university's expectations. Faculties often set rules about the kind of journal accepted for promotion or degrees. Read your regulations carefully so effort is directed at venues that count.
  • Use national and institutional access. Egyptian universities may provide shared access to databases and reference tools. Ask the library how to use them for checking journals and finding relevant papers.
  • Offer a distinctive angle. Many papers cover similar topics, so emphasise what is new in your method, dataset or context. Editors prefer a clear contribution to another repetition of known results.
  • Separate co-authors' roles early. Supervisor, student and collaborator contributions should be agreed in writing before drafting. Clear authorship avoids disputes during submission and revision.
  • Prepare for similarity screening. Run your draft through your institution's text-matching tool and rewrite overlapping passages in your own words. Properly cited quotations are fine; copied phrasing is not.

Know your institution's rules, highlight your distinctive contribution and settle authorship and originality checks before submitting.

Questions Researchers Often Ask

Q1. Which Egyptian journals carry a high impact factor?
A Clarivate Journal Impact Factor is given only to journals in the Web of Science Core Collection. The table above lists journals published in Egypt that report international indexing; verify current metrics in JCR or SCImago. Quote the year of the metric whenever you cite it.
Q2. What makes an impact factor good?
The answer rests wholly on your field. Compare journals only within one subject category, using quartiles, with Q1 being the top quarter for that year.
Q3. Do CiteScore and an impact factor mean the same?
No, they are not the same. A four-year window and Scopus data underpin CiteScore; a two-year window and Web of Science data underpin the Journal Impact Factor.
Q4. Which clues reveal a fake impact factor?
Find the journal inside the Master Journal List and Journal Citation Reports. A figure published by a little-known “impact factor” service is not a Journal Impact Factor.
Q5. Is it necessary for researchers in Egypt to publish in Q1 journals?
A few promotion and grant schemes ask for Q1 or Q2 journals; plenty accept any indexed or peer-reviewed journal. Double-check your institution’s current rule.
Q6. What is the impact factor of JMVRA?
JMVRA gives 11.25, based upon Google Scholar data. This is not Clarivate’s Journal Impact Factor, and none of Scopus, Web of Science or DOAJ indexes JMVRA.
Q7. What counts as a good impact factor for researchers in Egypt?
It hinges on the discipline. Stick to comparing journals from one subject category instead of crossing fields.
Q8. Is JMVRA’s stated impact factor Clarivate’s JIF?
No. Calculated using Google Scholar data, JMVRA’s 11.25 is not the Journal Impact Factor of Clarivate.
