Become Part of the JMVRA Editorial Board & Reviewer Panel
Trustworthy journals rely on peer review, and peer review relies on researchers who offer their expertise. JMVRA invites qualified researchers, faculty and subject specialists from any country to help evaluate submissions to a monthly, open access, multidisciplinary journal that has published since June 2023. Even a modest number of careful reviews helps keep standards high.
Voluntary service: these posts are honorary — JMVRA pays no remuneration for editorial or reviewing work.
Two Ways You Can Contribute
Which Role: Editorial Board Member or Reviewer?
Editorial Board Member
Suited to experienced faculty and researchers able to supervise manuscripts within a subject field.
- Manages submissions in their subject, from screening through to a recommendation
- Chooses appropriate reviewers who have no conflict
- Considers the reviewers' feedback and recommends a decision
- Follows publication ethics guided by COPE
Reviewer
Suited to researchers holding a PhD or comparable research experience in their discipline.
- Evaluates manuscripts within their own field of expertise
- Produces reports that are objective, precise and constructive
- Advises acceptance, revision or rejection and explains why
- Reviews confidentially under a transparent, double-blind model
Open-process, two-way anonymous peer review
Your Place in the Review Process
Each research paper submitted to JMVRA undergoes transparent, double-blind peer review. During review, neither side learns the other's identity, so editors and reviewers evaluate only the work itself. After publication, the review is put on record so that anyone can confirm it took place. The diagram sets out every step and the person responsible for it.
Double-blind
The paper's authors stay hidden from you, and the authors never learn your identity.
- Similarity check completed beforehand (under 15%)
- Evaluate the work, not the individuals
- Treat the manuscript as confidential
Transparent
A public record of the review lets anybody verify that it was genuinely carried out.
- Review listing at Scholar9
- Public reviewer list
- A formal report, if you ask for it
Roles & responsibilities
What Editors and Reviewers Are Expected to Do
Editor responsibilities
- Before review begins, check each manuscript you are assigned for scope, completeness and its similarity report.
- Ask two to three independent experts with a suitable background and no conflict of interest to review.
- Keep reviews on schedule by chasing late reports and replacing reviewers who do not respond.
- Read each report with a critical eye, then recommend acceptance, revision or rejection, giving reasons the author can act upon.
- Ensure the author receives the reviewer comments and the decision, which is the foundation of transparent peer review.
- Recuse yourself from every manuscript in which you hold a direct or indirect conflict of interest.
- Give every submission equal treatment regardless of the authors' nationality, institution or background.
- Report suspected plagiarism, data manipulation or other misconduct to the editorial office, in line with COPE guidance.
Reviewer responsibilities
- Respond to every review invitation, by accepting or declining, within 48 hours.
- Finish the review in the agreed time, which is typically 5–7 working days.
- Offer feedback that is fair, specific and helpful on originality, method, results, clarity and references.
- Treat every manuscript as strictly confidential and do not share it with anyone.
- State any conflict of interest and turn down the review if there is one.
- Do not keep, copy or cite any unpublished manuscript that you have reviewed.
- Do not approach the authors directly, either during or following the review.
- Assess the work, not the people: be respectful and avoid personal criticism.

Preparing Yourself to Serve as a Journal Reviewer
Volunteering for an editorial or reviewer role is a real commitment to your discipline. These suggestions help you decide whether the role suits you and perform it well once you begin.
- Match your expertise honestly. Offer only the subtopics you can judge confidently. Editors value a reviewer who declines an unfamiliar manuscript quickly more than one who produces a shallow, uncertain report.
- Protect time in your calendar. Review work competes with teaching, writing and fieldwork. Set aside regular blocks for careful reading so that reports reach editors on time and your comments stay thoughtful.
- Declare conflicts at the start. If you know the authors, share a funder, or compete with the work, tell the editor immediately. Early disclosure protects the fairness of the process and your own reputation.
- Keep manuscripts strictly confidential. Never share, discuss or reuse unpublished material, and do not forward it to students or colleagues without permission. Trust in the review system depends on this discipline.
- Write comments authors can act on. Separate major concerns from minor corrections, explain each point with reasons, and keep a courteous tone. Useful criticism helps authors improve even when the final decision is a rejection.
Volunteer only for work you can assess fairly and on time, and treat every manuscript you receive as confidential.
FAQ
Questions About Joining
Do editorial board and reviewer roles carry payment?
No, neither position is paid. Both are unpaid honorary roles, and JMVRA offers no remuneration, honorarium or fee for editing or reviewing; people join to support their field and to look after the integrity of scholarship.
Who can apply to become a JMVRA reviewer?
Anyone with a PhD or equivalent research experience in their subject. We welcome applicants from all countries and disciplines, since JMVRA is a multidisciplinary journal that covers every subject.
How can I apply for the editorial board?
Complete the joining form at joinreviewer.php, giving your qualification, designation, institution and research field. If you want to be considered for the editorial board, also send your CV and the subject areas you can handle to [email protected].
How long does a review take?
Reviewers answer an invitation, accepting or declining, within 48 hours and typically finish a review in 5–7 working days. Any invitation outside your expertise or availability may be declined.
Is a certificate given to reviewers?
Yes. Reviewers who are active get a digital certificate of appreciation, printed with your name exactly as typed in the joining form.
Do authors learn who reviewed their paper?
No. JMVRA follows transparent, double-blind peer review, so author and reviewer identities stay hidden from each other during review. Once published, the review is recorded on Scholar9. The reviewer panel's members are listed publicly, but they are not tied to specific papers.
May I review papers written in Indian or foreign languages?
Yes, and we would like you to. Papers reach JMVRA in English, in every Indian (local) language and in foreign languages. List the languages you are able to review in on your application, and the editorial office will invite you whenever a paper arrives in one of them.
Is it possible to be removed from the panel?
Yes. Reviewers who keep missing deadlines, supply inadequate reviews or break confidentiality are taken off, and recognition may be withdrawn in cases of misconduct.
