Practical Tips for Using a Policy FAQ Effectively
A policy FAQ is a quick guide, not a contract. Using it wisely saves time and prevents misunderstandings about fees, review, ethics and refunds before they become problems.
- Start with your exact situation. Note whether you are submitting, revising, paying or withdrawing, then read only the answers relevant to that stage. Mixing advice from different stages often leads to wrong assumptions.
- Follow answers to the full policy. Treat each short answer as a summary and open the detailed policy page for conditions and exceptions, since brief explanations cannot cover every circumstance.
- Write down what you relied on. Save the page address and the date you read it, because wording can be updated. A record helps if you later need to explain the basis of a decision.
- Ask before acting on doubts. When your case seems unusual, write to the journal before you pay, withdraw or republish. Questions asked early are quicker to settle than disputes raised afterwards.
- Share guidance with co-authors. Send relevant answers to everyone on the team so that all authors understand obligations such as disclosure, originality and consent from the start.
Use the FAQ for orientation, confirm details in the full policy, and ask the journal directly whenever your case is not clearly covered.
